Services

Professional Development -- New Teachers

Objectives:​ New teachers will learn to identify anticipated stressors, define several Thought Distortions common to new teaching, implement Thought Records and Reappraisal strategies, articulate their own coping strengths and growth areas, and draft a plan for implementing new skills and strategies to support their own mental health and wellness. Mindfulness strategies like simple meditations, gratitude journaling and intention-setting can also be incorporated. 

Pre-Work: Short readings on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and emerging adulthood are required.

Logistics: Sessions are designed to last 3 hours and accommodate groups of up to 50 participants. This can be modified depending on the wishes of the group.

Small Group Skills Instruction & Support

Objectives:​ Small group workshops are available on a variety of topics and themes, including meditation and breathing exercises, sleep improvement, self-compassion, and working the positive. Ongoing or one-time drop-in new teacher support groups are also available.

Pre-Work: No pre-work is required.

Logistics: Workshops are designed to last 90 minutes and accommodate groups of up to 12 participants. This can be modified depending on the wishes of the group.

Consultation & Coaching

Marin is available to provide consultation and coaching to organizations and individuals on a variety of topics such as: support with higher-need teachers, developing and implementing a mental health support plan at your school or organization, programmatic questions, effective training for teacher coaches, and strategic planning.

Individual Support

Marin can see individual teachers and coaches for 50-min. confidential therapy sessions. 

Professional Development -- New Teacher Coaches

Objectives:​ Teacher coaches will identify several common developmental and clinical challenges faced by today's new teachers. They will learn and practice several supportive techniques that are easy to implement in coaching relationships, including intention-setting, self-care menus, deep listening skills, Thought Records and Reappraisals, gratitude journaling, and brief meditative exercises. A case study framework will be used to facilitate maximally effective discussion and team problem-solving.

Pre-Work: Short readings on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and emerging adulthood are required. Coaches may be asked to provide case study examples. 

Logistics: Sessions are designed to last 3 hours and accommodate groups of up to 50 participants. This can be modified depending on the wishes of the group.
